Maria Ilieva won the Banker of the Year Award 2008

Maria Ilieva, CEO of MKB Unionbank , was bestowed the annual ‘Banker of the Y ear’ award by The Banker Weekly. The prize was given for winning the trust of the shareholders and the successful growth of MKB Unionbank in 2008. Under her leadership the Bank has tripled its performance.
“The current year was one of the most important in the history of MKB Unionbank. The Bank affirmed itself as one of the fastest-growing financial institutions in the country”, said Maria Ilieva. “I would like to thank the team of MKB Unionbank because I know that everyone has a share for the winning of this prestigious award. The Banker of the Year Award is not only an acknowledgement, but a clear sign that we are going the right way. This prize is a serious obligation for us to keep growing and become one of the ten largest banks in Bulgaria”, added the Chief Executive Officer of MKB Unionbank.
Maria Ilieva became Chief Executive Officer of MKB Unionbank two years ago. During this period the Bank grew faster than average in the sector. The assets of MKB Unionbank have increased almost 2.5 times and exceeded BGN 1.4 billion at the end of September 2008.
Keeping its excellent quality, the credit portfolio tripled and now is more than BGN 1 billion. Borrowed funds from companies and individuals increased by 75% and reached over BGN 750 million and the profit quadrupled to reach BGN 12 million. The equity of the Bank doubled for the same period.
